Yes! Oh oooooooooooooh oh uh oh! Yes! Yes! Ooooooooooh yes! Oh NO! OH NO!

These very words were released from my mouth last Monday morning, as I slowly sunk back into reality. And I'm well and truly back, we're all back, from a very relaxing break which was the perfect size. I'm sure you have all noticed there is more than one reason to stay in bed (again, I know but it's not what you think!) It's so cold!!!!!!!! I hope the extra exclamation marks emphasized that enough. I now have even less motivation to go to my early morning lectures.

This cold weather has brought on a very troubling issue, what to wear? Now I know as students we like to look our best without breaking the bank (rich kids stop reading here and skip off to your stinky high street). So I have some handy tips that can help you keep warm and to keep some extra pocket money.

Please remember I am not a fashion student nor am I fashionable and it is at your own risk if you choose to take my advice.

You may or may not have noticed the popularity of the flannel shirt. These shirts can be purchased from the warehouse (hell no) for less than $20 buckaroos. Buy a bigger size (so you can act like it's for your old man) so you can use layers underneath the flannel shirt to keep warm.

This look can be topped off by wearing your favourite pair of trashy black jeans, or for the ladies, black tights. (Another hint instead of tights, try thermal tights! Extra cozy).

Snuggle into some thick wooly socks, mittens and scarf, black is a good colour for several reasons; 1) others can't tell if they are dirty, 2) goes with everything 3) because I said so.

There are also two more essential items; a good pair of boots and an excellent jacket. You can splash out on these items as you will wear them next year, and every year after that. Op-shops are an excellent place to find leather jackets (also in this season).

It's important to remember that it is better to be warm than to look cool. Seriously people, I don't care if you used to live in Dunedin or your parents are Scottish, wrap up! It's cold!

Interesting note: We wear 20 percent of our clothing 80 percent of the time.
