Another Year, Another Billion

Written by Olivia Boswell Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Students continue to struggle and are still forced to borrow to live with little time to protest, as total debt owed to the New Zealand government reached ten billion dollars last Thursday. The debt swells every day as more students borrow more money to live from the government.

Green Party tertiary spokesperson, Metiria Turei, believes the debilitating amount of student debt owed to be a generational theft. "It will create an intergenerational degrading of family security, as people with student loans will have a reduced ability to buy houses, less income when starting family life, and fewer resources for their children at the beginning of their lives."

News Media = Bollocks

I can't remember much from my days of university. I think there was something about a library and overdue charges, but that was a few years ago now. I lost most of my memory one day when standing next to a giant magnet, which while fun at the time has made remembering stuff kind of tricky.

The point is, you know him. But if you’re like me, you didn’t know he did stand-up.

We talked about that, his first acting experience on a basketball court, his new documentary Heckler, the weather (give me a break, I only had half an hour to prepare) and why we never got to see him have sex with Heather Graham. Read on.

Torture: Can we justify it?

Written by Ryan Boyd Tuesday, 01 April 2008
Some of you may be aware of the philosophical question that asks if you had a time machine and could go back to when Hitler was a gurgling, smiling, innocent baby, would you stomp on his skull there and then?
Although an event like this is unlikely to happen, it raises the moral point that has confounded humans for centuries: does the end justify the means?
Pop quiz hotshot: a terrorist has been captured and he knows the whereabouts of an armed nuclear weapon that will kill thousands of people in an hour. He is not cooperating. What do you do? What do you do?
