How do I get a job if employers want someone with experience and I have no experience?

All your experience counts You probably have more experience than you think, even if it hasn't been in paid employment. Remember to count your part-time jobs, your study projects or any volunteer work you may have done.

The key is to target your search to suitable jobs and employers. Do not rely on advertised positions alone - they represent a smaller portion of the available jobs at any given time.

Employers like to hire people they know Employers generally like to find candidates amongst those in their own organisation - they have already proved to be a good employee. This is why it is a good strategy to take an entry level or part time job, even though it isn't exactly what you may be looking for.

Volunteer work, part time work and work experience related to your study and study projects are all methods for making yourself known to desirable employers.

Use your networks to connect with employer networks

Employers also like to find people through their networks. They'll ask colleagues, friends or other contacts who might know of someone suitable. To increase your chances of being recommended, you need to tap into the networks of employers through your own networks.
