...the new Sex and the City movie

Who else is excited about the impending Sex and the City movie? I know
I can’t be alone here. Don’t we all miss Carrie’s crazy outfits, her
kooky friends and if nothing else, her shoes? As much as we hate to
admit it, I know we all wished we could spend the day like her- laxing
out in our (how can you afford this?) apartment, tapping away
insightful things into our Mac, and wondering how the hell we managed
to afford all those shoes on a writer’s budget.
Considering the last episode of SATC screened forever ago, I
thought it was time to get everyone up to speed about where the series
left off; if for no other reason then so when we settle down in our
comfy cinema seats with a bucket of popcorn, ticked-off boyfriend in
tow, to watch Sex and the City: The Movie, (Oooh I got shivers down my
spine), we’re all on the same page. |
So basically, the last episode saw Carrie finally being rescued by
her Prince Charming, aka Mr. Big, aka John, when he flew to Paris to
profess his undying love after she got slapped by her Russian lover
Aleksandre Petrovsky (yes, this is how it’s spelt, even though he’s a
fictional character). She immediately flew back to New York to do what
she does best: brunch with her friends. Did anyone else think this
ending was kind of a cop-out? Oh, I know we all wanted Big to step up
and get his shit together eventually, but it just seemed so
unrealistic.
What else? Well Samantha curbed her skanky ways by falling for a
younger actor by the name of Smith, who really seemed to care about her
as well. He expressed his love to her by sending her a plant while she
recovered from breast cancer. Charlotte finally got her wish for a baby
when husband Harry informed her they were getting a little girl from
China, and Miranda embraced domesticity by agreeing to move to Brooklyn
and giving her mother-in-law a bath, after finding her eating pizza out
of a trash can.
So, what can we expect from the movie? (Read: possible spoiler
alert.) Well, from what I understand the movie doesn’t pick up
immediately from the last episode. In fact, we fast- forward a few
years. Charlotte’s little mandarin girl is a baby no longer, Carrie and
Big are getting married….or are they? And, the inevitable occurs -
Miranda and Steve’s marriage is dealt a blow after “infidelity issues”.
Hmmm, sounds ominous. Then I can imagine the film will end much how all
the episodes in the series ended: With Carrie gazing out her apartment
window, lips pouted, writing about what a bastard Big turned out to
be. I can’t wait!
