Kia Ora everyone
This week the campaigning period for
the 2009 AuSM election officially opens. This means you may start to
see a few posters/flyers around campus with candidate's pictures
and profiles and information about what they want to do for you in
the student community here at AUT. Make sure you take the time to
find out more about why various students want to represent you. Ask
questions of them which you think would be of benefit not only to
yourself, but to the association and university as a whole. These
students will be your leaders for the whole of 2009 so make sure you
find out something about them, before you vote. A good decision is an
informed decision. Elections are only a couple of weeks away. More
info about how to vote will be out shortly.
AuSM has officially launched the "AuSM
annual online survey". This is a survey we put out to all 24,000
AUT students to find out what we here at AuSM could be doing better
for you at AUT to improve the quality of service we provide. Last
year we launched the survey for the first time and had around 1200
students take part. This year we are hoping for a least 5000. The
more ideas/feedback we get from yourselves about what you want at
university when you are here, the better able we are to provide this
to you. One area of particular interest we are asking about is what
acts and entertainers you want to see at O-week in 2009. We are
really keen for you to think outside the square and think what else
apart from the usual (bands and dj's) you might want to see. Quite
often I'll get students emailing me with ideas and feedback on
things, and while this is good the fact of the matter is that the
university has 24,000 students, ranging in age from 16 to somewhere
around 80, with countless numbers of ethnic backgrounds and course
interests and tastes. Thus while AuSM is here to represent all you
different students we can only make assumptions as to what you want
if you don't tell us. This survey provides us with crucial market
research to allow us to continually change and develop our services
we provide here at the association. On that note visit
www.ausm.org.nz
to fill out the online survey and go in the draw to win some decent
spot prizes, including a weekend away at the AuSM lodge with up to 20
of your mates!
Lastly, if you didn't already know
AuSM is hosting Katchafire as the headline act for the 2008 AuSM
Dis-Orientation Festival taking place on the night of Friday 17
October. The gig as per usual will be free to all AUT students and
will be taking place in the AUT quad with the big stage and sounds
set up. If this gig was anything like Salmonella Dub was at the end
of last year it will be absolutely off the hook!
Have a great week guys, till next
time....
