Prez Sez Issue 17

Hi everyone, I hope your semester is going well and the constant rain isn't putting too much of a downer on your semester. MetService reported a couple of weeks ago that the month of July has been one of the wettest on record. Let's hope for an improvement in the weather as we approach spring. If you didn't already hear I can report that AUT placed 3rd in the annual tertiary games that were held at Waitakere Stadium the other week. Thank you to everyone who participated in the event this year and helped improve our placing from 2007 of 4th place. The next sporting event we have on the cards here at AuSM is the annual Snow Games. These kick off this Saturday down in Wanaka in the South Island and run for the entire week from the 23 to the 29 August. Competitions range from Giant Slalom to the Half Pipe to Cross Country Skiing. Hundreds of university students from around the country will be converging on Wanaka for the event. The Snow Games is similar to UniGames; however it's a lot smaller in size and a lot colder. If you didn't get a chance to enter this year I would strongly recommend you get on board in 2009.

Next Monday 25 August, all students will receive an email to their AUT student email address with information on how to vote in the 2009 AuSM elections. This email will provide you with an auto sign-in link to the AuSM online ballot. Between now and next Monday make sure you check your student email account to ensure it is working and that you can access it. While there are 13 positions available on the AuSM executive for 2009 not all students at AUT will be able to vote for every single position. Some positions such as president and vice president are of course open for all students to vote on while positions like business faculty rep are only available for students in the business faculty to vote on. Don't worry you need not do anything. AUT has everybody's information on their database and will send out the appropriate online ballots to the right individuals.

Lastly, if you're planning on heading down to Mt Ruapehu this winter for some snowboarding or skiing make sure you give AuSM a call first and check to see if the AuSM lodge is available. You can find out more information about the lodge by visiting www.ausm.org.nz or call 921-9805.

Till next week.........
