An Open Letter to the Penquins of the World
|
|
Dear penguins of the world,
Greetings, little friends. Just
writing to give you big ups for being so rad. You and Morgan Freeman go
together like bread and tomato sauce. I like your snazzy tuxedo jackets
and the marshmallowy way you slide on your stomachs. In short,
penguins, I think you're the bee's knees, the hot tamale, and other
outdated terms of endearment.
Speaking of hot, friends, I've
heard a little rumou | ... Read More >>

| Music Issue 3 | The Return of Killer Music I'm not sure when it happened, but it seems musical guilty pleasures have suddenly become okay to scream from the rooftops.
Quite frankly, I am not happy about it. It's not that I have a problem with someone liking music which lacks a ten point review from Pitchfork or a placement on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack. By all means, we should all be free to listen to whatever indes ... Read More >> |

| The Culture of Apathy | I'll Change the World Tomorrow
Have You Ever?
Marched on parliament?
Wrote to your MP?
Asked someone to sign a petition?
Boycotted a product or service?
Made a formal complaint?
Appealed a mark?
Gone to a protest out of your own free will?
Gone on strike?
If you answered no to all of the above, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re probably in the majority.
Protest today just isn’t what it used to ... Read More >> |

| Culture Stock | A Look at Germany
Germany has always held a certain enigma for me, as for many New Zealanders, contriving thoughts of Aryan wars and screaming little moustached men. My late Grandfather once growled at me: “those Germans are bastard’s son, not to be trusted”. My sombre view of Germany was fuelled by my one-legged (an ode to German anti-aircraft guns) Grandfather’s stance, and my altruistic ... Read More >> |

| Living The Dream | Living The Dream Several nights ago I was walking down Queen St on my way home from my job as a late night baker. A slow chill ran up my spine as I slowly became aware of something following me. Without bothering to turn around, I instinctively knew it was the giant frog I had short changed earlier that night and that he had come for a piece of my pie. I started running. As I ran Queen St began to change, becoming... Read More >> |
