USNZ Snow Games 2008

ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE SNOW GAMES 2008 

The NZ Uni Snow Games see students put their snowboarding and skiing skills to the test. The 2008 games are going to be held in Wanaka from the 23rd – 29th August. More than 10 competitions will be organised in Wanaka this year and AUT have started to recruit competitors for the event. With students competing from all over the country, some from overseas, it is not only a chance to hit the slopes, but you can make contacts from all over the world. The AUT team gets bigger and better every year.

USNZ Northern Tertiary Challenge 2008

ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE TERTIARY CHALLENGE 2008 

 The Tertiary Challenge is a yearly event with all Northern Tertiary Institutes that come together to compete in a variety of sports over one day. This is a great social yet competitive event.

In 2008 the USNZ Northern Tertiary Challenge is held on Friday the 8th of August at Trust Stadium Waitakere from 9am to 4pm. Competitions include Volleyball, Basketball, Touch, 7-Aside Football, Netball and Ultimate Frisbee. All teams must be mixed.

Entries close on Friday 25th July at 3pm.

2008 AUT Futsal Championships

Stay tuned on the AuSM website because the very first AUT Futsal Championships is coming for all AUT students to compete over September, October and November on the Sport & Fitness Centre on the North Shore Campus.

Futsal is simply 5-a-side indoor football played all over world and it features even in the FIFA World Cups list. It is currently the fastest growing team sport in Europe, Asia and South America and New Zealand Futsal team is soon ready to kick off their campaign for the OFC Futsal Championship 2008 in Fiji from 8 to 14 June.

AuSM Maori Pasifika Games 2008

AuSM supported by the Maori and Pasifika Students Services is proud to present the Maori Pasifika Games with a whole new format.

The Games will be run twice a year one on Semester I (always last Wednesday of May) and one on Semester II (likely in September). Sem I will see Volleyball and Netball to be played while on Sem II participants will compete in Touch and Basketball.

This year Games have been set for Thursday 4th September 2008 at the Sport & Recreation Centre on the North Shore Campus: Basketball and Touch matches are played from 3 to 6pm and prizegiving will be handed at the North Shore Vesbar from 6 to 7pm.

Prizes include Team winnner Shield, gold and silver medals, 4 extra trophies and spot prizes.

All AUT students are invited to enter the games. More information will be included in the Debate, AuSM website and Students online notice board soon. Watch this space!!

AUT Blue Awards

Blues are awarded for outstanding achievement in university sport, a tradition adopted by English speaking universities in many parts of the world. AUT Blue Awards are used to honour AUT students’ contribution to sport and study. Awards on offer include the AUT Sportsman and AUT Sportswoman of the Year, as well as the AUT Athlete of the Year.

AUT Sports Council

AUT has a Sports Council to develop sports and recreation on campus and at a national level. Made up of representatives from AuSM and AUT, the council is dedicated to encouraging and developing sporting achievement. The vision of the council is to create a vibrant AUT sport and recreational culture through the promotion and development of elite and recreational sporting opportunities, enhancing the health and wellbeing of the AUT community on all campuses.

University Sport New Zealand - USNZ

AUT is a member of USNZ, a national representative body set up to encourage tertiary students and secondary school leavers to participate in sport. USNZ provide on-campus activities and clubs as well as opportunities for coaches, administrators and athletes to develop their skills from campus-level sport through to national representation. USNZ provide facilities and events for national tertiary competition such as the University Games, and assist with regional tertiary sporting challenges when required.
